| CHURCH TO CONDEMN BACOLOR CASINO |

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Archbishop Paciano Aniceto said Sunday the archdiocese and the Pampanga clergy would not tolerate the continued operations of Leisure World.
Aniceto was referring to a casino reportedly owned by Blue Chip Gaming and Leisure Corporation at King's Royal Hotel and Leisure Resort in Bacolor town.
Aniceto said he was surprised that there was already a casino outside of Angeles City, the only area where casinos are permitted.
Aniceto, in his homily during the High Mass and solemnization of Christ the King at Villa Del Sol in this city, said the church cannot allow the culture of gambling to proliferate in areas outside the permitted zones as it destroys the very roots of family life.
He told Sun.Star Pampanga: "Our stand against gambling is very consistent as we follow the pastoral position of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Repeatedly, with the different consultations of the CBCP condemned any kind of business that diminishes the dignity of man and one of these is gambling aside from prostitution, corruption and degradation of family life."
He said: "The church addresses any issue that comes upon its doors."
"Dito, hindi namin alam na may casino na pala outside Clark and Angeles City. But we will do it through peaceful means. We will inform our laity to uphold the values of the Gospel na nagsasabing ang hanapbuhay natin ay ayon sa dangal ng tao. Hindi sat samba o sapalaran. I should be based on honest integration with our work at sa tunay na dignity of labor at hindi iyung mabilis na kayamanan," Aniceto said.
"Ang pinakaimportante dito ay oppose a culture of gambling kung saan tumatamad na tayo at wala ng insentibo. This is not in consonance with a man and a woman with dignity who are children of the Lord. In every mass, we will remind our parishioners of this threat to our Christian values," he added.
"Iyang ganyan kasing organized and legal gambling is not real recreation. Walang yumayaman sa sugal at it destroys family life. It destroys assets. Of course, I do recognize that Pagcor has charity projects and help but what we are emphasizing here is the culture of gambling and the mentality na hindi na magtatrabaho ang mga bata at an gating mga kababayan. We are for a dignified means of supporting ourselves and for a business that respects dignity of humanity," the feisty prelate stressed.
